Hi Debz

The fact you found him on the TNA site in series WO97 shows that his service papers are available at Kew on microfilm. They are filming the records and have got to men discharged upto 1854, and as they do so they are indexing the names.

Online from The National Archives website. If you found the reference you just follow the instructions from there.
The organisation 'Friends of The National Archives' indexed soldiers discharge papers up to 1854 (if Chelsea pensioners) but not Kilmainham (soldiers discharge in Ireland) though outpatients were by paid by Chelsea from 1822 onwards. Kilmainham inpatients went on until 1929.
I don't know that the 'Friends of The National Archives' have any plans to index soldiers discharge papers to pension after 1854?
