Forbes, Depoe, Mackenzie, Smith

I am afraid I have not got their marriage certificates. My searches on Scotlands people has been fruitless.
I cannot find a marriage between Forbes and Depo- no matter which way I spell it and with soundex on.

Do you have a magic wand, mine is out of service at the moment

Jessies birth certificate should give Andrew and Sarahs date and place of marriage. Do you have this information?

I have looked through all my fathers info and this is what I found.

Jessie Forbes birth cert states her d.o.b as 24th November 1877, 14 Waterside, Dalmellington, Ayr. Her parents are stated as Andrew Forbes + Sarah Depoe, married 1853.
There are some IGI notes dating their marriage as 27th Feb 1853 Ayr. Andrew noted as born in Girvan and sarah in Maybole Ayr.

An 1881 Census states that there are children dating from 1862 - 1878. The last being Jessie, but there is another Jessie Forbes noted as 1858 (not on the census), I can only think that they had her and she died.
I am so confused. Maybe grace and Andrew are not his parents?

Hi Mandy,

Do you have Andrew and Mary on any other census apart from 1881? If not will trace them for you and you might be lucky and get them with their parents.

Also dont think your Andrew is the son of Andrew and Grace as their Andrew was born in  Renfrewshire..not Ayrshire...but could be wrong.

Also, have you tried looking for the birth of one of the other children, apart from Jessie..just to double check parents names and place and year of marriage?

Will have a check through the census's when i hear back from you.

Hi Mandy,

Have been tracing your Andrew through the census's and on all of them he is born Girvan Ayrshire and a blacksmith. If he wasnt son of Andrew and Grace, this family in 1841 looks like a possibility

As Andrew and Sarah got married 1853, before statutory registration, their marriage would be on old parish records.

Extracted record so more reliable than submitted entries.

I think your best bet to find parents names would be to look for their deaths..this should give you parents names.

Have found what looks like Andrew on 1891 census, but looks like Sarah might have died by then.

I did a free search on Scotlands people using the following

Depoe...tick soundex box
Sarah

Forbes ..under other names

bet 1881 and 1891

And there is one result in Lanarkshire..this is where they were in 1881.

Might be worth getting this as if its right one you will get her parents names and then might be able to find her on earlier census before her marriage

Living at Kyle Combination Poorhouse, Ayr, Ayrshire

Parish Ayr, ED Kyle Combination Poorhouse, line 11, 1901

Then did a free search on Scotlands People for death of

Andrew Forbes

Bet 1901 and 1956
Brn 1833+/- 2 years

Ayrshire

And there was one result..good chance this could be your Andrew and hopefully you will get his parents names
