John William Gray b. 1876
« on: Monday 01 October 07 20:18 BST (UK) »
Hi all,

I am interested in tracing my great uncles and aunts lineage from 1901 to the present day but not being able to access the census makes this impossible. Are there ways around this?

The names would be: John William Gray (b. 1876 @ Trimdon, Co. Durham and married Catherine Lockwood); Richard Hall Scott Gray (b. 1884 @ Trimdon); Elizabeth Jane Gray (b. 1887 @ Trimdon); Ruth Scott Gray (b. 1891 @ Trimdon and married John Binks).

Many thanks and any help would be grateful,

Russ

Cheers Wearsider,

I have them up to 1901 but no further. I was wondering if it was possible to find out any information on them post 1901? Thomas Scott Gray was my great grandfather.

Hi Russ,
You will find it difficult to work forward after 1901. You can search through the BMD records but it will be time consuming especially with a fairly common name like Gray. After the Sept ¼ 1911 the mother's maiden name is given which helps to track families.

John William Gray = Catherine Lockwood
Probably Easington Register Office in 1896

You should have picked these two up on the census.... between 1901 and 1911 to find the children would be a slog through the parish registers... at the Records Office in Durham

Elizabeth J Gray = Gilbert Greenfield
It also possibly could be register office in 1919

Elizabeth J Gray = Stanley Dixon
Methodist Church Trimdon Station Entry 6 - 1918

The bottom marriage could be Elizabeth with it being a Trimdon marriage

Ruth S Gray = John Binks
St Paul’s Church, Trimdon Station Entry 17 in 1922

Richard Gray = Sarah E Holmes / Benson
Possibly Easington Register Offce in 1923 shes been married before that’s if this is your Richard..

The two register office marriages could be checked out at Bishop Auckland Register Office.. using the father's names as checking references

www.durham.gov.uk

The two marriages could be checked out at Durham Records Ofiice and copies purchased from them at £2 each.. if you couldnt get there in person to have a look on the microfilms yourself..

Yours The Vicars wife..

Ps after that Stan is right to get the children of the marriages its a long hard slog through the st catherines house index qtr by qtr year by year..

Thank you for your replies, much appreciated!

I have a Richard Hall S Gray marrying a  Dorothy Turnbull in 1909 which I would think is him and an Elizabeth J Gray in 1904 to Robert Candlish Sample, or George William Templeton but that does not mean she did not re - marry in 1918 or I have got it wrong, but I have no children for any of them. (I have an Alfred Lockwood Gray b. 1900 for John William)

Trimdon does appear all the time in my researches and in Trimdon Station churchyard is the grave of my great great grandmother Ruth Gray (nee Scott). I would love to see the church records for Trimdon station churchyard (or Trimdon) to see if any other of my relatives are buried there.

Thanks again for your help,

Russ

Hi Russ

Im not sure if you know but all the headstones are going to be removed from around the church.. They'll possibly move them to around the edges of the graveyard.. along the wall.. but Im not totally sure.. where they'll go..
