Llewellyn family in Pembroke
« on: Wednesday 03 October 07 21:52 BST (UK) »
Looking for information on a James Llewellyn who was a shipwright. He had a son David born about 1809 with the census records showing he was born in Pembroke.

James is not shown as deceased on David's marriage certificate in 1842 but I cannot find James on the 1841 or 1851 census records.

Not a lot to go on I'm afraid.....but here's hoping.

Regards

1861 Pater (Pembroke Dock) RG9/4156 folio 36 pg 14
George Llewhellen head mar 36 shipwright b. Pembroke
Ann wife 36 b. Lawrenny
Edwin son 7 months b. Pembroke Dock
William H brother unm 42 shipwright b. Pembroke Dock

baptisms from IGI batch C082911 St Mary's Pembroke (St John's, Pembroke Dock didn't exist until 1840s)
all to James and Elizabeth Llewellyn
William bp 27/9/1816
George bp 9/4/1823
Ann bp 20/4/1821
James bp 29/12/1819

No sign of a David in that batch but there are problems with the IGI before 1813 in Wales as it often assumes a patronymic naming pattern, making the usual searches useless.

possible death reg for James

James Llewhellyn sept qtr 1858 Pembroke vol 11a vol 391

several possibles for Elizabeth between 1851 and 1861.
I'm having no luck finding the family in 1841. Could be they have been mistranscribed.

Pembroke Dock was, the church of St John the Evangelist wasn't. It was consecrated in 1848 so, although births for this family might have been in Pembroke Dock, the baptisms would be elsewhere.

Sorry my comma was confusing.

You got me checking now - 1814 was the start of the naval dockyard according to Wikipedia, but Paterchurch was around long before that. But, I did realise while looking, that the places of birth for William and Ann in 1851 should have read Pembroke Ferry, St Mary's.
  :)    ;D

Hope it's the right family now - what census entries do you have for David?
