It looks from the colour scheme as if those are indeed the back of the buildings on West Walls, am I right?

I see vehicles there too.  So I guess I can get the car up.  Is it realistic in a normal car?  Is that a dead end, or can you drive under the bridge?  Thank you for letting me view it from here, though.

Here's an alternative view, it looks as if you're right http://tinyurl.com/pmlsma

You must be able to escape from there somehow ;)

It looks as though it would have been a dark and dingy place to live Geoff.

I can't imagine what it must have been like having to go back there after a hard days work.  I wonder how many people lived in those buildings at one time, and probably no fire escapes in those days.

Geoff, thats brilliant. The chumley is right above the s in backhouses walk and you can see why I struggled today. It also shows that the building I photoed has 7 stories to the front which gives some idea of the slope I had to climb to get to the back. Just seen photos! Don't think I got that quite right. Followed instructions but will try again so if anybody in charge can slap my wrists I'll do what they say. :-\

Sorry everybody, the thumbnail is perfect but even my copy ofthe nelson bridge is ruined. I'm sure everybody can find it without my help.
Emms, yes thats the back of the west walls theatre, a(kiddies bouncy thing- guesing) and the Twisted Wheel. Down bank, I recognise nothing as there seems to be gap between Backhouses and the Damside. As I said on another  thread, there is a gaited alley between the two roads.  If you are risking the car, try from the other end by the public loos. If you can get up that end (and there were lots of white vans) then you can get out of the other end.
I'm struggling to imagine the geography of that area before the railway, especially through the station. If you stand on James street and look up it's alpine!  If we apply this to the other threads of the lanes and backhouses we should be able to tie them together.
Oh Bigger! I've just realised that under Nelson Bridge I'm not that far from the back of staples etc and Water Lane. Expedition boots, sandwiches and flask on for tomorrow.  In vino claream

Billy, Tarraby certainly not on street view and Tarraby lane never will be - it is literally a lane that they couldn't get their car up.
Rosemary, if you're coming in the school hols you can leave the car here and the ofsted woman who rules this house will put her wellies on and go with you! ;D But this half term as we're off to the chateau 8).

Sounds like a bit of a Rootschat meet Bob :)  That would be lovely to have a guide.

Do you mean you're going to the chateau during the summer hols?

I got a shiver when you mentioned ofsted Bob, not long had our return visit.
I think it'll be a few months before streetview will be available for Carlisle.  Most of the streets in London etc were done last summer, they are all in t-shirts.

No going for half term. 99p out and free back = £80 for 2 of us. Hows that for mathematics?
Know what you mean about the shiver. I get it everyday ;)
