Scanner messed up photos- is there hope?
« on: Friday 05 October 07 10:08 BST (UK) »
I dont think theres anything that can be done but if there is someone on here is sure to know how!
I scanned some photos several years ago using our old scanner and for some reason it put lines across all the photos. My Gran has the photos and as my Grandad died resently its not the best time to ask if I can borrow them. I have a new contact in NZ who I want to sent some of the pics to so I was wondering if there was anything I could do to improve them. There are loads of photos so its really advice I need as to whether there is
anything not to complicated I could do to improve them.
Thanks, heres an example
(ok 10 mins later after finding photo was too big and then not a jpeg lets hope this works!)

Hi There Slowbookworm  ;D ;D

Welcome to Roots , the problem with your pic is it is way too small  :-\.  Can you redo it bigger .  I realise you do not have the original, but how big was it when it said it was too big to post.  I do hope you haven't saved over the original scan you had  ::).  The bigger the picture the better the restore.  At the moment the pic is tiny.... :-\.  If you have any trouble posting the bigger one, just let us know, we will be more than willing to help.

Cheers

Lones  :)

Thanks  ;)

That is much better, something to work with  ;D.  I am not very good at this, but I will try.  Others will do better, my restoration skills need some serious work  :-\, but I do love to colour..... ;D ;D ;D

It might help to fix the pic on your other topic too, you will get more replies.. :D

Cheers

Hi Slowbookworm

Have you tried turning on the "descreen" function on your scanner???

Its usually found in the tools menu and can help remove patterns from your scans

Photo restoration: For best results please scan at 300-600dpi

Thanks for the reply Smurf
The problem is these were done on an old scanner some years ago. I have a new scanner that does a great job but I dont really have access to the photos at the moment.

Hi Slowbookworm,
I have made a start on this one, but feel as if I am re-painting it.

Have attached my starter, showing changes to background, hat, face and chair.

Let me know if you are happy with this result and I will continue.

Don't know how I will go with the fox fur though :-\

Thanks Margaret, thats great, I will be able to send my "cousin" one non stripy photo now.
The rest will have to wait until I can get my Gran to lend me the originals.
