Hi Tracy - 1st post I see, welcome on board !

So, to track back on his family, you need to find his Birth Index entry and obtain the Certificate, which will reveal his parents names ... that will allow the 1901 census and earlier to be searched.

You dont have access to his Marriage Cert do you - that would show his Father's name and occupation....

was he always known as Arthur or did he use Ernest do you know ?

Hi both and welcome Tracy  :)

The death registration (June quarter 1979 Rutland 6 2300) gives his birth date as 26 January 1904  :)
