Steve
Its not unknown to have more than 1 MIC especially 15 Star on one British War and Victory Medals on another.
They may be named just by an initial and not full name.

However as earlier posting he being an old soldier may have been employed training troops in UK and not deployed overseas until 1916 thus no Star.

Have you tried the Kings Liverpool Regiment website theres a search available to see if they have any records.

Have tried Liverpool Regiment. No record for him, even though I have his medal with his name and Liverpool Reg on the side. Also medal card with Liverpool number on.Could this be because he joined up 1897/99 time?

Which medal do you have of his?
also spelling of the name could cause mistakes.
If you go on the Great War Forum and make a post in "Soldiers"  theres an expert on the Labour Corps called Ivor Lee he may be able to help you out.
