Jordan - Moss Town & Phillipstown 1850's
« on: Tuesday 09 October 07 21:00 BST (UK) »
Thanks to help from members on this board and an extremely helpful parish clerk in Dunleer I now have my g.grandfather's baptism and the marriage of his parents - Patrick (Patt) Jordan and Catharine Flanagan in 1837. JCLAHS 1975 page 232 has an article on "Families at Moss Town and Phillipstown" which is sadly out of print but which I would be most interested to read. Does any hoarder out there have this edition and be willing to let me have a copy of the article or does this breach copyright?

The families listed in the article are (surnames only): Nevin, McEntegart, Tenanty, Cain, Cooney, McQuaid, McKenna, Ebbett, Mackin, Brady, Flanagan, Dolahan, Drew, Duffy, Halligan, Callan,  Landy, Powderly, Byrne, Lambe, McCabe, McCann, Flinn, Keenan, Kenny, Grogan.

The Flanagans mentioned are (1852):
Widow Anne Flanagan aged 60
Peter Flanagan aged 25
Pat Flanagan aged 23
This widow has two families in her house - her son-in-law and his family:
Thomas Dolahan aged 46
Mary Dolahan aged 30
Anne Dolahan aged 13
Margaret Dolahan aged 10
Elisa Dolahan aged 7

There is also mention of Pat Brady, and his family, aged 60, caretaker to a Peter Flanagan (of whom there is no further information).

Brendan

Brendan,

Many thanks for your very prompt reply and once again you have really helped.

The most likely possibility I have been given for the baptism of Catherine Flanagan is as  follows:

11 April 1817 - parents: Dennis Flanagan & Anne Dullehan - sponsors Peter Flanagan and Catherine Flanagan. Dullehan - Dolahan? Food for thought.

best wishes,

Fairlane
