Born in Sourton?
« on: Wednesday 10 October 07 08:42 BST (UK) »
Hi

Can anyone help me find Ann Aley born c.1772 in Devon, please?

She married Peter Symons in South Hill, Cornwall and was spinster of that parish but on the census for 51 & 61 although living in South Hill she is down as being born in Sowton Devon.  AMENDED: Relooked at the census images and think it could well be Sourton.

Any help much appreciated.

Hi Joanna

I think it is probably Sourton, near Okehampton

There is a place called Sowton on the otherside of Exeter but Sourton is nearer to South Hill, so it could be - I'll change my subject heading!

Looked at my sources for her but nothing came up. I think the Devon Records are more difficult to get hold of. I've had similar problems with OHs ancestors down there around the same time  :-\

http://www.a2a.org.uk/search/records.asp?cat=021-qs_4&cid=1-1-35

It says in the first link that peter symons was a carpenter.

Hi Debs

Peter Symons is well recorded - I've managed to go way back with his family at South Hill.  Thanks for looking though not sure what it all means.  Peter did have a son George.
