Birth Record Look Up - Rose Burnett
« on: Wednesday 10 October 07 17:12 BST (UK) »
Hi
Is there anyone willing to see if they can find a birth for me?  It may sound simple but it has got me totally stumped.  My G Grandma Rose Burnett was born in South Shields.  According to her death certificate her DOB was 3 May 1887.  Although all of her siblings were registered, I can't find her.  I'm now wondering if she was registered under a different forename.  The reason for me thinking this is that her Mothers much younger sister died in the same quarter and year and her name was also Rose.  There are various Female Burnetts born around this time but I've no way of checking if the parents are William and Annie Maria Alma Burnett (nee Cook).  If anyone can help me with this I would be very very grateful.

What you need to do is ask the local registrar which (if any) of those Female Burnetts have the parents you seek.

Would ukbmd be of any help? I know some local indexes have MMN prior to 1911. you should be better informed than I as to which districts you should be looking at.

Hi Pauline
Thanks for your reply.  The problem I have is that I live abroad so I'm limited to what I can do online.  I was hoping that someone may have access to baptism records or something like that.

what else corroborates that 1887 birth year?.

the most likely one in 1901 (piece 4864) is aged 12y.

In 1891 look at piece 4161 where Rose is 2y.

Hi Sarah

South Tyneside BMD Registrations are now online.  There is no entry for Rose BURNETT 5 years either side of 1887.

Hello to you both,
The only thing I have with Rose's actual date of birth is her death certificate.  The censuses point to her being born nearer 1889 but as Helen says there is no birth registered 5 years either side of 1887.  If I was rolling in money I could send for all the birth certificates of females born in and around this quarter but I'm afraid I haven't been blessed that way so it's down to hard slog.
Thank you both for your help

Try contacting South Tyneside registrar's department first of all at registrars@southtyneside.gov.uk . Explain the problem you've got, and ask if they will (as do many other local registrar's offices) do a search limited by the fact that you are looking for a female birth, the parents names must be William Burnett and Annie Cook, and the date of birth between 1887 and 1889.
If they will do this, then you should only have to pay out once.
