Hi

If you want information you might also try www.rafcommands.com, www.cfww2.com, www.ww2chat.com or www.ww2talk.com forums as there are people on there who have access to information aswell.  Trouble is it can become a bit of an obsession.....

Good luck

WOW  :o :o ;D ;D

I got the biggest shock when I saw your messages. I can't thank you both enough particularly you Alamoon. It has been over 2 years since my last posting and I was just off to bed when I checked my emails and there was your messages. I was glued to the screen for the next 2 hours. I didn't get to bed till 1.30 in the morning  ::)

Ian was my Father's cousin and I don't believe the family ever knew what really happened to him and to read the report and the letters was just amazing and heart breaking. Thank you very much.

I do have one question does anyone know how I might go about finding out what U.S. units were in that area of Italy at that time it would be nice to know who those Americans were that took the time to bury him.

Thanks so much again I can't wait to tell my cousins and siblings about this info  ;D

Kind regards

Miss Lilly

Hi

Might be worth just googling Naples+US units+ww2 and see what comes up.  You could then contact the units and see if they have anything in their unit records.  You might or might not be lucky enough to be able to find the vets who did the burial.

Just a thought there are various excellent history of the Spitfire books about.  It might be worth buying a few as you never know your rellie might be mentioned in the bit where they are covering Naples.  I think by that time we were beginning to have the Air Power so fewer would have been shot down so may rate a mention....

Dear DeeBoneham

Thanks for the tip. I will definitely spend some time in a few bookstores and look through them. There are quite a few books out about spitfires and like you say I may strike it lucky
Thanks again
