BANT _ Windern COMPLETED WITH THANKS
« on: Sunday 14 October 07 08:42 BST (UK) »
I'm trying to find the birth of an Isabella Bant who was born in Windern Cornwall in 1823.
Thanks for taking the time to look at this. :)

Hi Clocker,

I have not heard of a Windern in Cornwall. It is not a parish but does sound somewhat similar to Wendron. Now 1841 census does list a Isabella aged 15 but she is in South Petherwin which is a long way from Wendron (Almost opposite ends of Cornwall)

http://freecen.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl

I am not having any luck with a baptism for this girl or any of her siblings (or any Isabella Bant born in Cornwall at this time) I note a brother lists Stoke Climsland as his place of birth in 1851 as does mother (Father lists South Petherwin - Stoke Climsland is quite near South Petherwin, quite close to the Devon Border so that fits) Interesting perhaps that from 1851-1871 Isabella is not home but a granddaughter Isabella, born Laneast resides with her grandparents.

I guess there is a chance Windern could be an address/area in the Stoke Climsland/South Petherwin area or your Isabella has left Cornwall before the time of the 1841 census.

Sorry I could not be more help........Cheers Kris  :'(

Hi
Windern is Ancestry's transcription in the 1851 Scottish census. However their transcriptions are often way out so suggest you look at the actual image on Scotlandspeopleto find what her birthplace actually is. Ancestry does not have the actual images for Scotland.

Thank you all so much. I shall keep hunting, but this is the first time I have had a lead on her. Thanks for your time.
Kind Regards

Hi Suz,

Sorry to say I have still not been able to turn up a baptism for Isabella or any baptisms at all to this Stoke Climsland/South Petherwin Couple but I do see

William BANT = Elizabeth SARGENT 30 July 1813 Stoke Climsland

Hope you are able to view the original of the 1851 Scottish Census as Andy has suggested. I would be curious what it does actually say. Here is hoping it will help. I have been looking for anything that sounds at all like Windern around this area of Cornwall where we do have an Isabella of the right age without success........Kris  :D

Thank you both very much. I feel I am finally getting somewhere with my Isabella. I never even thought of different spellings as I thought Bant was so clearcut...but we live and learn
many thanks for all your help

Suz, I hope you are still getting emails about postings to your threads.

I have been helping a lady today to research Isabella Bant and John McDonald, and your threads came up in our research. She would dearly love to be able to exchange information with you, so if you reply on here, I'll PM you with contact details for her.

Today we found much of what was found for you on this thread, and more details about the Bant family, which was all new to her.

Hoping for a reply......
