St Laurence Parish Records
« on: Sunday 14 October 07 13:10 BST (UK) »
Hi

I'm now pootling down the Jull side of my tree and they are now in the St Laurence in c1790's. I've found a likely set of candidates using IGI but would obviously like to check through, presumeably, the parish records. I have asked for some look ups before but feel that more, just to extend my tree, would be presumptious and unethical.

So, could someone advise me on the best location for me to find the records?  A GRO in Kent, Kew, a library etc? That way I could do the work myself rather than an overreliance on the unbelieveably helpful Rooters. I don't want to appear to be taking the mickey. :) :)

Thanks

Ian

Although transcriptions are a great resource , there is nothing like working through parish reigisters for yourself.  You get a feel for the families in the parish.

However transciptions and indexes are great for finding where your ancestors were.

For example there are several JULL wills in the Consistory Court of Canterbury Will Index:

They can be found at the Canterbury Cathedral Archives:

Thanks Bearcat

I've quickly checked the Jull's but can't tie any in yet. The Cantebury records will almost certainly encompass what I need judging by dates they have. As an aside, they also appear to have the records for the Griggs I'm trying to resolve so I guess I'll have to plan a trip. Only 110miles each way but then...

Cheers

Hi Tony

The one I'm dealing with is St Laurence (sometimes transcribed as St Lawrence) in Thanet, NE Kent near Ramsgate.

Cheers

I've been borrowing the LDS films for St Lawerence. £3.80 for a 3 month loan although you have to have an LDS centre near to you as they won't let you take them away.

Alternatively Kent FHS produce fiches of St Lawerence ;)

Should have added that the Kent FHS are just transcriptions however the further back you go in the original PRs the worse the handwriting becomes  :-\so you may find it useful to have both to double check
