1891 census - missing family
« on: Sunday 14 October 07 17:31 BST (UK) »
I am (still) tracing my family of VIGERS in Devon.  I have the on the 1881 census in Cleveland Place, Littlham, and again on the 1901 census in Withycombe Raleigh.

Head of the household in 1881 is William Vigers, with his Wife Harriett.  Harriett is widowed on the 1901 census, and I "think" I have found a death entry for William as March Qtr 1891.  I can't remember the month for the taking of the 1891 census, but seem to remember it being around March or April.  Do you think this is why I can't find them on the 1891 return - as it coincided with his Death? ..... or it has been known that the spelling is so bizarre that I am just not open minded enough with the spellings .....

Williams POB was Starcross, and Harriett's was also Starcross, but latterly Exmouth (if this makes a difference???)

If there is some kind soul that can decipher the mistranscriptions (I jest) of the census, and is able to assist, I would be very much grateful.

Or .... if anyone knows anyone else researching this line, I would love to hear from you ....

Cheers

If you look on Free BMD, it looks as though Edith may have married in 1889, if that helps.

I have tried looking for an Edith with the 2 male names on the FBMD site, but there are none that match.  There is 1 that matches the name, age and POB, but the Husbands name is not the same .....

I still can't find Harriett though .....

I have located George on the 1891 census and the 1901 - to be honest, he stayed in the same address as far as I can see - with the same occupation as his Father - a gardener .....

Hi

The William that I posted in the 1891 census with Matilda is William and Harriet's son.

I have tried everything to find Harriett ... to no avail . I have gone through Littleham, Exmouth and Starcross using just one name searches ... she has to be really mistranscribed .....

I will keep looking ...
