French Refugees

Two of my ancestors, Jean Payn (born in Nantes) & Francoise du Frene (born in Granville) were married on 9 Apr 1831 in St Hellier, Jersey. Jean's parents were Philippe Payn & Marie Louise le Halper. Francoise's parents were Oliver Germain du Frene & Countess Marie-Francoise Augrain. A logical deduction would be that the families fed to Jersey to avoid the tyranny of the French Revolution. That said I would now like to find some evidence to support this theory and would be grateful if anyone could advise on how I might proceed.
