I'll have a poke around but Llanferres is the opposite side of Denbighire from me  but maybe  :)

What occupations?  There were lots of ag labs and gardeners from Perthsire that seemed to move to Denbighsire at that time. I'm not sure why  :-\

Pat,

Re the 1891 census entry you found (incidentally were John MCINTOSH and Maggie E MCINTOSH children of Margaret MCINTOSH, and was Maggie MCKAY a niece of Margaret MCINTOSH?) ...

Likely births of John & Maggie E in Wales, both in Neath Glamorgan, seem to be (from FreeBMD).
John MACKINTOSH born Jun quarter 1870
Margaret Ellen MACKINTOSH born Jun quarter 1872.

The IGI has LDS submissions for births in Glamorgan to an Adam MACKINTOSH & a Margaret BAIN.

There is an extracted entry for the following marriage:
Margt. BAIN m Adam L MACINTOSH, 9 Sep 1859, Petty Inverness
And an LDS submission for the marriage which has Adam Leslie MACINTOSH (age 41, parents William MACINTOSH & Elizabeth MAITLAND) and Margaret BAIN (age 25, parents Donald BAINH & Helen SANDIMAN).

A Donald BAIN married a Nelly SANDIMAN, 1824, Kiltarlity Inverness (extracted).
There are also LDS submissions about the family.

The IGI has the following births to Adam M(A)C(K)INTOSH & Margaret BAIN:
In Inverness-shire
*Elisabeth MC INTOSH 1861 (extracted)
In Ross & Cromarty
*Archibald MACKINTOSH 1864 (LDS submission)
*Adam MAC KINTOSH 1866 (extracted)
In Glamorgan, Wales
*William Lesley MACKINTOSH 1867 (LDS submission)
*John MACKINTOSH 1870 (LDS submission)
*Margaret Ellen 1872 (LDS submission - death given as 1949, mother's name as BEAN)

Perhaps Margaret (BAIN) M(A)C(K)INTOSH might have been related to Helen (BAIN) MCKAY??

G'day,
This is my first contact with Rootschat and I wandered in after a link from a Google search on my grandmother's married name took me to a "post" from you in which she and her family of Macintoshes were mentioned.
My Grandmother Margaret Macintosh was born in Wales on the 19th April, 1972.
Your "post" discussed her and her origins.

Does she fit in with your research or were you just offering advice to someone?

As I had to subscribe to Rootschat, I lost the link to your "post" the subject of which was the name Mckay if my memory serves me rightly.

I think I have just come across your original post on this matter, when I went into preview.

My great grandfather Adam Leslie Macintosh was a farm grieve who moved with his family from Invernesshire to Glamorgan in Wales.  He lived and worked there for a few years and another three children were born there before he moved back to Scotland.

My wife and I live in Hastings, on Westernport Bay.
Regards
Ron Currie

Hi Pat,

You think it's cold in Queensland at the moment, you should try Victoria.

I made an obvious mistake with my grandmother's DOB - it should have read 1876.

I also have some of the names recorded for the Stirling address too.

My Bain ancestors also had the spelling Bayne.  No surprise!

The Donald Bail mentioned in a previous post was my second great grandfather.

The LDS entries were mostly entered by my cousin, a member of the Church of LDS.

Oops,
Done it again. Another senior's moment. he date was 1872, and my grandmother Margaret Ellen Macintosh, was born in Glamorgan, Wales, where my great grandfather was working as a farm grieve.

They did return to Scotland some years later and settled in Stirling.

My great, great grandparents were the Peter and Agnes McIntosh.  I am researching at the moment, so any info. would be appreciated.

I know the McIntosh family, Neilson family, Cramb family and Carruthers family all from Dunblane are related.

My family still live in Dunblane.

Hi all - have another McKay problem  ::)

Have two marriage certs:- and can't figure them out

1) Maggie McIntosh McKay age 20 married Daniel McIntosh at Dunblane 31 Dec 1900 parents for Maggie given as Alexander McKay occupation mason and Helen McKay nee (I can't read it very well) Bayole ( or something like that) now according to the census Maggie was the daughter of Peter and Agnes McIntosh, but knowing their proclivity for claiming parentage (they claimed my grandmother Charlotte as adopted daughter) and Daniel is their son..we can't have sons marrying daughters..now can we.

2) Christina Ann McIntosh married Alexander McKay at Dunblane in 1902 parents for Alexander are Alexander McKay occupation builder and Helen McKay nee (this time it looks like) Bain.  The bridegroom is either 21/31 and is in the Cameron Highlanders usual adds Fort George.

What I am trying to figure out is whether Maggie and Alexander are brother and sister ???? suppose they would have to be  ??? I did a search for marriage on SP and came up with one at Inverness for Alexander and Helen Bain ?? the writing is very faint so am not sure. Can't find anything on IGI nor Ancestry nor can I find any death details for Alexander or Helen.

Hope this makes sense..please help..why on earth would the McIntosh's claim her as daughter and why..patvp

Dear Pat, yes it was a McIntosh brother and sister married to a McKay brother and sister.  Which made their children their own first cousins, if that makes sense!  The surname is definitely Bain.  I have taken that line back quite a bit and visited the home of Alexander McKay at 7 and 9 smith's Lane in Nairn (b. abt 1844 in Holine/Holme inverness).  He recorded children at both homes, I realised when I got there that the houses had been knocked into one at some point.  It's still there.  Helen Bain was the daughter of Donald Bain and Helen Sandiman.  I've traced the Bains to a couple of generations before that, the Sandimans are found in Dundee (if memory serves).  Although there could be an error in the marriage certificate since oral testimony always said he was a Cameronian (Scottish Rifles), rather than a Cameron Highlander.  Medal role would seem to agree he was awarded an honor as Alexander R. McKay states clearly Cameronians (Scottish Rifles).  It was common for soldiers to find themselves in other regiments however.  So anything is really possible.  I was up at Fort George a couple of years back with my Dad who was a Seaforth Highlander at Fort George.  Parents of Alexander are Kenneth McKay b. Redcastle abt 1822 and Jane Ross daughter of Adam Ross and Jane Cameron in Killearnan, Ross-shire, Jane lived close to Nairn at the time of her marriage.  I get to Nairn every couple of years so know the area quite well.
