Jackie

Can only see a John born 1838 in Mitcham in 1851
HO107; Piece: 1602; Folio: 65; Page: 7
Aspreys Rents??, Mitcham
Robert HORNIGOLD, son of head U 18, Labourer in factories, born Surrey, Mitcham
John HORNIGOLD, son U 13, Print works (Tearer), born ditto
Thomas RUSSELL. son-in-law mar 26, Wire worker & smith, born ditto
Cornelia RUSSELL, dau of head mar 20, Straw bonnet maker, born ditto
Maria RUSSELL, grand dau 1, born ditto
plus a lodger.
There is a comment in the address column "Robt, the head of the family slept in London on the night of March 10".

Not sure if these are the ones you are after or not. The head would appear to be Robert Hardy HORNIGOLD, some of them on the IGI.

Can't see a John in 1861

Hi Ian,

Thank you very much for the information it is very much appreciated. I know of this family as they are related but i am not sure this is the correct John as i have him in the 1871 census and he gives his age as 28 and by then hes married to a Sarah?  which makes him born about 1843?
This John is certainly giving me the run around i shall have to look for him in the 1881 & 1891 and see if his birth date tally's

Thanks for all your help
Kindest Regards

Hi Jackie,

This is an odd one, can't see any John Hornigold born Mitcham in other census, but found a John Ogburn with a Hornigold family

possible parents in 1841, only Hornigolds in Surrey:

1841 HO107/1078/12 fol.66 p.9
East India Company's Military Seminary, Addiscombe, Surrey
John Hornigold 40 Serjeant  N (not b. in county)
Mary Ann   "     20                 N
Isabella     "       2                 Y

1841 HO107/1062/1 fol.28 p.6  (the family Ian gave you for 1851)
Nelson's Field, Merton, Surrey
Matilda Hornegold 40 Straw Bonnet Maker Y
Matilda      "           14                                  Y
Cornelia    "           10                                  Y
Robert      "             7                                  Y
John Ogburn           2                                  Y

wondering if this John Ogburn became Hornigold later???

will look for him in 1851

I am now wondering if your John Ogburn is the son of John William born 1823 the eldest child of Robert & matilda Hornigold?#
Very Strange??? It would be great if you could locate him in the 1851.,
