Very Poor Photograph need help if poss
« on: Tuesday 16 October 07 15:53 BST (UK) »
Hi clever people

I have been sent this photo bt another rootschat friend which is of Willoughby On the Wold School  in 1909 the problem is the quality is very poor, I think a copy of a copy.

I have tried to find an original copy but sadly no luck

This picture contains many Screaton family, all my relatives,  I have all the children's names, so as you can imagine I would love to see it improved.

List as follows in case anyone else can find a relative.

Back Row left to right - Mr Moorhouse, Ruth Wilson, Amy Screaton, Lily Sissons(should be Sissins), Florrie Sleigh, Nellie Hallam, Ivy Goodacre, Lawrence Goodacre, George Newton

2nd row left to right - Miss M Sleigh, Maggie Sleigh, Bella Sleigh, Madge Bailey, Rex Bailey, Albert Nixon, Elsie Marriott, Winnie Newton, Miss A Moorhouse.

3rd Row left to right - Leslie Sissons/Sissins, Jack Girton, Cyril Woodford, Ernest Hallam, Chris Screaton, Harold Screaton, Joe Hallam, Horace Sissons/Sissins, Hetty Sissons/Sissins

Front Row left to right - Millie Nixon, Walter Goodacre, Billy Wilson, Archie Screaton, Nellie Screaton, Jack Wilson, Nellie Girton, Tom Screaton.

Any help would be appreciated

Hi Judy,

It's a very interesting photo. I would love to have a go, but...

The resolution is rather low. 72 pixels per inch. This makes a nice and tidy attachment for emailing, but it means that for restoration purposes there isn't much to work with. (Each face ends up being about 7 pixels wide)

If your friend has a better resolution scan, please ask them to post it here.

cheers,
g a r

p.s. below is a sample showing the same photo at 300%

GAR

Thanks for the reply, I,am still on the hunt for the Original, but my options are running out sadly. :'(

I thought it may well be the case that the copy was so poor that improvement was pushing my luck lol.

If by chance I get the original or a better copy, I will re post

Many thanks for your efforts

Judi

I've had a go anyway - so you don'tend up empty handed

but it won't stand up to enlarging and might look marginally better smaller but very little detail.

fingers crossed that you have some luck obtaining access to an original

cheers,

Hi Judi,

Can't improve on the photo, but I have a Beswick marrying in Willoughby in the early 1700s. What struck me was the marriage was to a Hallam and the Hallams they were still there in the 1900s.

The Beswicks moved from Willoughby to Sutton Bonnington and there were a lot of Hallams there too.
