So you have a maiden name for Rose! And the 1881 census in Edinburgh. Would be helpful if you could include all info you already have in your first post.

I still cant find the marriage. though, well not in England. Would be worth someone looking in Scotland.

What was the source of the maiden name?

Re 1881, why dont you think the Drummond str is them because we know they were in Scotland for some years, because of the birthplaces of 2 of the children?

Hi both  :)

I think Sylve was discounting John and Sarah in 1861, Liz!

Which is fine with me, Sylve, but may I just ask why? Is there anything else you know  and which might help us find the right George? :)

Sorry, misinterperated the sentence about the 1881 census, obviously.

Wish we could find the marriage, cos then the cert would give George's father's name and occupation, which would help find him on censuses pre his marriage.  And thus confirm if the 1861 John and Sarah family is on the right track or not

Thank you Tati and lizb,
I found  someone looking for a the same George Tipping as I am, their Grandfather  was Alfred Thomas who was son to Grandfather George ,  Alfred  immigrated to Canada in the early 1900's, the information they have is that Georg had seven sons that lived to adulthood and he served in the Royal Artillery and died in Southborough in 1929.
He was married twice according to them first wife died after ten years of marriage second wife's name Rosa Ellen Langdon, knew nothing about his first wife.
My family knowledge is that he could have married in Rangoon India when in the Army,

I am still looking for moor info on Rosa E Langdon born London Bayswater.
I am hoping to look at a family bible soon that I have tracked down.

Many thanks Sylve
