Jackie your profile doesn't say where you are in the UK.  So a little information which may be useful, before 1858 wills were proved (if that is the correct term ) in other places - I know there are wills at the Borthwick in York, and also Cheshire Archives - the Cheshire ones are £3:50 for a copy - I know because I've just received one, the web-site for Cheshire is - www.cheshire.gov.uk/Recordoffice/Wills
I don't know the web-site address for the Borthwick, York.
