Malcolm has e-mailed me this image to put up for identification purposed.

Added - I've put up a partial entry in case there are any copyright infringements with the full entry.

Thanks for that gadget. This is a hopeful connection. I have just been on ScotlandsPeople again and I can't find any record of any of the children of Christopher that I have found before. I found a couple of children of Alexander but no Christopher. This one may be pie in the sky. A pity because everything looked quite rosy for a bit. And then I found this one
14/04/1803
MYERS   MARION     CHRISTOPHER MYERS/MARION LACHLAN       FR1930FGlasgowGLASGOW CITY/LANARK644/001 0200 0150

This could tie into the wedding register of Margaret Law and Christopher where we thought he could have been described as a widower.

Life and genealogy gets confusing.

I feel like I am beating my head against a brick wall. I have found a wedding in Glasgow in 1802 between Christopher Myers and Marion Lachlan. From census Christopher was born between 1786 and 1791. The wedding was in 1802 so even though he was recorded as a weaver on both marriage certificates, the dates do not gel. Marriage to Marion  Lachlan was on 16 June, 1802 in Glasgow. Can't find any record of death of Marion. However death certificate gives age as 76. Which would make birth year 1782 and make the wedding to Marion a possibility.  I also found a record of one Marion Lachlan being born in St. Cuthberts, Edinburgh.

These variations in dates certainly make life difficult.

The plot thickens. I have just been on IGI and found William Myers Rhind born 6 June, 1861, Leith, Midlothian. I also found a William Myers Rhind born 13 December, 1863 in Leith, Midlothian. Both were shown as son of John Rhind and Margaret Myers.  I could not find a record of a death by that name. No wonder we find finding these forebears so difficult.

Scotlandpeople have the birth date as 1861, so this could be the right date.

Hi Mal  :)

I'd go with the SP date. However, is the 1863 date a 'patron submission' or a baptism?

On both entries it shows the Batch Number 116921, and records five other children. I checked this out and it shows the two birth records. I tried to find a death record for 1861/2 but to no avail. Could it possibly be just a simple case of whoever transcribed the records entering the wrong information?

If it's that form of number without a C, P or M in front it is likely to be a patron submission, I think. I'll go check it out.

Hi Malcolm

They are both on a controlled extraction record. Are you sure that they are not both on SP?

I would say that the 1863 one survived.

My laptop battery is pretty low  so I'll have to go now.

Regards

Hello Malcolm,

A free search on SP seems to find that the 1861 birth for William Myers is listed under RHIND, and the 1863 under RHYND.

I did not see the death of the first William Myers - it's probably hiding there somewhere.
