hi Rcuser,
just some snippets of info and i'm more awake  ;)

IF these are your folks then ... Three Ashes was 20 miles from Monmouth Place Bath.
If you type in Three Ashes , stoke Michael on Maps Google you will find where they lived 1841, and
Crossways,Midway, stoke st michael Radstock avon BA3 you will see the location where they moved to in 1851.
Now there is virtually nothing but on old maps it can be seen well. there were just a few houses, so if  C and W did live there you could hardly avoid each other! However i cannot see a smithy marked on the map at 3 ashes or Midway but maybe he was Smithy to the farm and dwellings there (STOKE FARM).
3 Ashes was on a cross roads but those roads have gone now.

1841- William Wilson was a Chelsea Pensioner ,now i've looked again it looks like she lived with them ... no occupation noted for her.

it all fits in quite well , the Thomas and martha does look very possible, age etc and it looks like C was the eldest and that they ran out of space at home  :D They are living just up the road from 3 Ashes in the direction of Bath. i noticed on the oS maps there were 2 , at least, methodist chapels and so i wonder if this is why they went to Bath. Of course St Micaels at Stoke Lane was the parish church.

Me again  ;D

It is a very long shot but in the Pigot's Directory of Bath in 1844 there is a William Davis, Smith Picadilly Place, which is  1.1 mile to Monmouth Place Bath.

It could be his father ?

Hi Debz,

Thanks for the information which I'm hastily typing into my database.

Found it unusual for a family to marry so far away from their birthplace but maybe at the time, as Meliora says, it was the custom to marry in a big town/city.

It's no wonder it's so difficult to track them down when they move completely out of area.

Thanks again for your help.

Have a good weekend.

Best wishes

it is very unusual to go so far unless William did have a connection with the W Davis , coincidence that he has the same occupation, in Bath.

the Holy Trinity church has a colourful history explained .....

let me know if you want anything else, happy to help.
