Collins family Cavan
« on: Sunday 26 December 04 01:33 GMT (UK) »
 ???
In an on-line County Cavan newspaper abstract, dated 1825, there was an Ellen Collins mentioned as going before the magistrate with two other girls for "possessing notes belonging to (a bloke whose name I forgot to write down)"  :-[)
One of my many-great grandmothers is an Irish girl, Ellen Collins, who was sent as a convict to Australia from Ireland on the Hooghley, arriving Sydney 1831.
She was both assigned and married to a Henry Wyatt in 1832, and died out in the Mudgee area.

Does Ellen ring any bells?  Does anyone have anything on a Collins family in Cavan?

Thank you, and
Best season's wishes to everyone,
 ;D

Hello Willow,

Belated thanks for Seasons Greetings.

I have looked at your message several times but find that your Coat of Arms is such an ostentatious monstrosity and is so offputting that usually I moved rapidly onward to another message. This morning, however, I decided that enough is enough and steps must be taken to remedy the situation. That monstrosity is so large there's no room to do any serious work.

If you would be kind enough to arrange for the CoA to be reduced to a reasonable size I will endeavour to see if there is more information that can be obtained about Ellen Collins.

I do not mean to upset you, if I have done so I offer my humble apologies.  :-*

Best Wishes, Christopher

Hello Willow,

Forgetting  my waffle earlier this year I am having a look at the Collins in Cavan.  I think it may be hard to obtain much information about Ellen as there were only 32 families with that surname in the county during the period of Grittith's Valuation of Ireland 1848 - 64.  http://scripts.ireland.com/ancestor/surname/index.cfm

This site http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths.php shows the families in Cavan. This site is similar to the previous one. http://www.failteromhat.com/cavan.htm

Genealogical Research Centre in Cavan - http://www.irish-roots.net/Cavan.htm

There are four enquiries about families named Collins on the Genforum Genealogy site.

Best Wishes, Christopher
