Hi bearcat

I don't know of a place called Shedwich, but if you mean Sheldwich, I might be able to help, depending on what you are looking for.

For Sheldwich, the info I have starts from 1813.
There are 18 baptisms, 8 marriages, & 7 burials for SKILTON.

If  you would like more info,  I'll give you the details tomorrow, I can't think straight at this time of night ;D

Two to be going on with for the Parish of Throwley -

Marriage
29th Sep 1834
Thomas SKELTON of Sheldwich
Frances COULTER
Witnesses:
Sarah Swan  James Credd

Marriage
23rd May 1831
Robert SKILTON  ba  Sheldwich
Christania COULTER
Witnesses:
Hy Coulter  Rbec Busbridge

For both Brides, under Notes it says T
I've no idea what that means.

Hope this helps.

Many thanks for those, Betty.  They must be related.

I am looking for two marriages for Thomas Skilton.

The first to Frances, probably around 1869.  The 1871 census shows them as married with one son, Edward aged 1.

By 1881 Thomas is widowed with 3 children and living with his parents in 1891 in Sheldwich Lees.

By 1891 Thomas has remarried to Charlotte?, possibly around 1882, and has 4 more children.  ( I haven't looked to see what happened to the other children yet)

Hi bearkat

Of the 8 marriages in Sheldwich, only two are for Skilton men -

Edward SKILTON son of Richard, in 1886 to Alice HAMMOND

Tho SKILTON, son of Edward, in 1866 to Jane JEFFERY

There are 3 children baptised, parents Thomas & Jane SKILTON, & a Burial for a Jane SKILTON age 24 in 1870.
Could Jane have been his first wife?  The marriage details give Thomas's occupation as Carpenter.

Two Baptisms for children of a Thomas & Charlotte SKILTON, on the same day.

24th Mar Joseph Thomas.  Notes: S Leys, carpenter, born June 1884.
24th Mar Mabel Violet.   Notes: S Leys, carpenter

Other SKILTON Baptisms in Sheldwich in case they may be useful to you -

Children of William & Mary, 1813 to 1820
    "             Thomas & Frances 1840s/1850s
    "              Edward & Emily   1840s/1850s

Let me know if you would like more detail on the baptisms of Thomas & Jane's children or any of the above.

I've had a look at the census with the widowed Thomas living with his parents, & the names of the three youngsters shown as grandchildren match the names shown on the baptisms of the children of Thomas & Jane so it looks like Jane was his first wife.
Unless it's just co-incidence that two men named Thomas each have three children of the same age & names.
Nothing would surprise me in family history ;D

I'll post more details.

By 1881 Thomas is widowed with 3 children and living with his parents in 1891 in Sheldwich Lees.

Many thanks for the information. :D

It's all helping to piece this family together.

I'd found the wrong Thomas SKILTON in 1871.  I've now the correct one, newly widowed, with his parents.
