Thanks for that Mary. The site is really interesting.

I don't know if my William Kerr had a Thomas in his family.
Mary Jane and William were both born in Ireland in Portrush I think. I'm trying to find their marriage to discover the names of their parents. Looking at the census, Kerr seems to have been a common name in Greenock.
Did William go to Greenock because he had family there?
He was a 'hammerman' and I supposed he worked in shipbuilding. Maybe that's why they  travelled back and forth  between Greenock and Birkenhead every two years, having a child each time .
