HAGUE- Preston Hagues
« on: Tuesday 23 October 07 18:19 BST (UK) »
Hello all: I am  posting for  Hague connections from  Preston Lancs and close vicinity.
They have been in the area for 200+ years but there doesn't seem to be anyone around after 1912, except for Florence Hague born 1912 died in Preston 1996....unmarried with no relatives according to the probate and will.
On my Gedcom I have 122 ancestors all living in the Preston area.....and no connections to anyone today.
Is this is unusual? Or am I just not looking in the right places.
Cheers

Have you looked on the bmd index on ancestry? There seems to be quite a few Hagues born/married Preston, Lancs around the turn of the century and into the 1920's from what I've seen

Hi Dorinda,

try the Lancashire BMD site too
http://www.lancashirebmd.org.uk/

I found lots of HAGUEs born in Preston between 1837 and 1897
Didn't try Marriages and deaths.

Good luck,
Bob

Hello Catherine & Bob: thank you for your replies.
I have ploughed thru many many lists of my Hagues from 1723 to 1914 but cannot seem to follow one family with their many kids down thru the descendent line. I loose track of them when they are not in the next census or the family breaks up because the mother has died.
For example: my grandfather's nephew I know was born in 1896 in Fylde. I have a photo of him  with his father in 1917 in what looks like an Navy uniform. However try as I may I can't find another thing about him. I even tried tracking him thru the AncestryBMD death lists thinking that he could have been a war casualty. I finally stopped at 1925.
If you have some creative ideas on how to connect these people to today'descendents, I would be most interested.
Thanks again
Bev

I would list the specific families you have on the 1891/1901 census, and see what the rootschatters can find. Obviously they may have to pm you with details once they find anything on people who still may be living. Maybe the ones that go missing on the censuses have just been mistranscribed or emigrated.

Good Luck  :)

Hi Catherine: I am taking your welcome advice and posting the family of John Hague (b.1856) and Ann Helm Hague (b.1856) both born and married  in Preston Lancs.
They had 3 daughters: Ann b. 1879
                                     Ellen b.1883
                                      Alice b. 1884
1891 census: John Hague age 34
                        Ann   "         "    34
                         Ann                  11
                         Ellen  "          "   8
                         Alice    "         "   7
                         John  Hague  age 72

1901 census:   John Hague age 44
                         Ann                    44
                         Ann                     21
                         Ellen                   18
                         Alice                    17
I have no idea where they were after the 1901 census because death & marriage records do not indicate any family connections to cross check to ensure that the name belongs to that particular Hague family. And of course there are many, many Ann/Alice /Ellen Hagues.
This family is only one of about 122 plus Hagues that I can't seem to connect to the 20th century. John Hague was my grandfather's first cousin, their fathers were brothers.
If anyone can shed some light on this particular group I'd be thrilled!
Thanks again ......Bev

  Hi Catherine:
Just wondering if I should have posted the family somewhere else or is this where you expected me to post it?
I know it will be very difficult to find these people without a census so my expectations are not high but I remain hopeful.

Best regards: Bev

It is more difficult to trace them after 1901, you could post a request on the Lancashire board, and in the mean time, I'll see if I can find any marriages after 1901, but without purchasing the certificates, it will probably be difficult to tell if they're your Hagues.

Regards

The only Alice Hague marriage I can find in Preston 1911 +/- 10 years is this one -

Alice Hague June 1916 Preston Vol 8e Page 1051
Groom - Frederick E Brewer

and theres an Annie Hague marriage March 1906 Preston Vol 8e Page 911
Grooms - Michael Tiernan or James Walker

You'd need the certificates though to confirm if they're yours (you could specify father John, then if its wrong certificate you would get a part refund)

I cant find an Ellen Hague marriage in Preston, but there are loads to choose from in other districts from 1901 onwards  :-\
