1861/1871 Lookup please - Mary Anne Jamieson or Dinwoodie
« on: Wednesday 24 October 07 10:43 BST (UK) »
Marianne (Mary Anne) Jamieson was born illegitimately in 1844 to William Jamieson & Jane Dinwoodie. I managed to find her on the 1881 census working at a hotel in Cumbria, but couldn't trace her before or after that, until now, when I found her on the 1851 census in Johnstone as Mary Anne Dinwoodie, living with her uncle & aunt, James and Mary Dinwoodie, who are the brother and sister of Jane.
Would someone be kind enough to lookup the 1861 & 1871 census for her as I am sure she was still in the area at that time (can't find her in England).

Many thanks .................. Mike

Hi Gadget

Thank you very much indeed, they are the right entries.
All I have to do now is try and find her after 1881 when she was 36, although she could have married, but I can't find a record of a marriage in England.

Again, many thanks

Mike

Hi Mike

There are two possible marriages for her in Cumbria:

Dec q 1883, Calrlisle, 10b, page 779  -two entries on the same page Mary Dinwoodie and Mary Jane Jamieson

possible spouses - Henry Irving and Robert Jefferson

Dec q, 1891, Ulverston, Vol 8e, page 1253

possible spouses - George Meredith and William James Grainger

The first one looks promising - you can check on the 1891 against a Mary Irving or a Mary Jefferson but with the two female names, it might be the place of birth/age that identifies.

From 1891 census Mary Jane (aged 23) married the Irving and was born Carlisle

Can't find a Mary Jefferson that fits either  or as her maiden name :-\

Mary Ann Dinwoodie, hd, 43, House Keeper, b. Johnstone

with 4 servants. The others must have died.

I think she might have died in 1913, aged 68 at Dumfries Infirmary. However, there is not much information, only that she was a single woman and died from Pneumonia following a fractured femur  :(
