Hello Gadget

Once again, thank you very much. ;D

Strange that she should be calling herself Jamieson in 1881 and yet on the Scottish census's she's a Dinwoodie!.
Is she Dinwoodie on the death entry?. If so then it's the right one as I haven't come across any other Mary Anns.

Regards ............ Mike

Yes, she's Mary Ann Dinwoodie. Are you sure you have the correct one in 1881. I'll  check on the Scottish census.

On the 1881 I was simply going by her name, age 36 and place of birth Johnstone, but as with all things genealogical ::) it could be wrong.
Walter Dinwoodie inherited Brae from his father David and died in February 1891.

Scotlands People have Walter Matthew Dinwoodie, Farmer, Brae, Johnstone listed in the Wills section.  Died 28 Feb 1891 at Brae, intestate. Dumfries Sheriff's Court. Ref is SC15/41/22. It is likely to be an inventory but it might give some background info. It will cost £5 to download the images.

I can't find Mary on the 1881 in Scotland although Walter is still at Brae. His sister, Mary Carruthers, 56, is now his housekeeper - maybe sister Jane/Janet had died and Mary Ann left after this but inherited the farm after his death.

It's very interesting  :)

Thank you for looking on the 1881, although I am sure I now have the right person in England. As for Walter's details, I'll see about getting his will as I have his father David's and if memory serves me right, the proceeds of Brae were to be divided between any surviving children on the death of Walter.
