John Leese Caverswall
« on: Thursday 25 October 07 08:31 BST (UK) »
I believe I am descended from John Leese and Prudence Owen who married in Caverswall on 19 Aug 1827 (Source: IGI). They had at least 7 children (Source: IGI) being
John – baptised 21 December 1828
George – baptised 19 June 1830
Joseph – baptised 25 September 1831
Edward Titus – baptised 20 July 1834
Agnes – baptised 24 April 1836
Caroline – baptised 2 May 1838
Henry – baptised 28 March 1841.

Their son Edward Titus Leese went on to marry Mary Locker in 1859 in St Peters in Stoke.

The 1881 census sees Edward Titus and Mary living at 94-96 High Street (RG11/2734/82/2) with their children
Hannah Leese – aged 19
Edward Titus Leese – aged 17
Adam Leese – aged 15
Lucy Leese – aged 11
Albert John Leese – aged 9
Joseph Leese – aged 7
Sarah Ann Leese – aged 5
France Gertrude Leese – aged 5
George Leese – aged 4

Their son Edward Titus Leese married Millicent Pyatt in 1884 in St James in Longton.

Edward Titus Leese and Millicent Pyatt were my great great grandparents.

The 1901 census sees Titus and Millicent living in Longton with their children (RG13/2615/116/14)
Titus – aged 16
Maud – aged 14 (my great grandmother)
John – aged 13
Joe – aged 11
Gertrude – aged 7
Sarah – aged 5
Beatrice – aged 3
William – aged 2
George – aged 4 months

Can anyone help me find out more about John Leese - i've hit a brick wall

Can't see John in 1871 but in 1881 he turns up in Hanley Stoke on Trent living with daughter Caroline at 50 Cannon Street

Edwin Hassall/head/M/41/lab/Hanley
Caroline/wife/M/42/b Caverswall
John Leese/father in law/Wid/81/Stanley
Caroline Leese/niece/Unm/18/DS/Longton

This looks like the death registration fro Prudence

Sep Q 1876 age 78  Stone  6b 29, and this looks possible for John

Sep Q 1884 age 84  Stoke upon Trent  6b 112

Hi, Does anyone have any info on who John's parents were. On the 1841 census there are a Thomas Leese born 1806, who could be his brother. There is also a William born 1771, wife is supposed to be Nancy, but i cannot find any marriages for a William and Nancy ot any births for a John or Thomas with parents of those names. On 1841 cencus William has no wife, and there are quite a few deaths between 1841 and 1851 so any could be William. Also no deaths for a Nancy Leese from 1837-1841. If anyone can help would be very grateful. Regards Maxine.

I share John Leese and Prudence as my great great grandparents, Edward Titus Leese and Mary Locker as great grandparents, and their son George as my grandfather. Have found the same problem with anyone before John. Have photographs of Edward Titus and Mary, the fish shop etc happy to share.

Ancestry has a baptism of a John Leese on 4 May 1800 at Bagnall.  Father is William Leese.  Mother is Nancy Leese.
On the 1841 census there is a William Leese aged 71 living next door to John Leese and his family.
