Hello Claire
I have Richard Hammer bpt.5.8.1821 St Mewan marrying Maria Tonkin 1840.
They came to Victoria Jan.1856.
Their children were:
Mary J. b1841 = Sampson Varcoe 1857 Vic.
Richard Hammer b1842 = Ann Brokenshire 1865 Vic.
John b1844 = Ellen Bellenger 1868 Victoria
Elizabeth b1846 = Justin Angwin 1862 Vic.
William b1847 = Elizabeth Jane Treloar 1869 Vic.
Christianna b1848 = Thomas William Johnson 1865 Vic.
Phillip Henry b1850 = Elizabeth Jane Luke 1872 Victoria
Rhoda Maria b1851 = 1. James Blight 1868 Vic. and 2.David Robinson 1900 Vic.
Maria Alfreda b1853 = John Henry Worral 1869 Vic.

As I understand it Richard was a son of John Hammer and Elizabeth/Betsy Coch(Cock).
John had a sister Jenny bpt 1804 St Mewan who married my Nicholas Harry. They were my great great grandparents. My great grandparents (John Hammer Harry and Elizabeth Ann Wellington) were married at Beechworth and lived at El Dorado raising at least 15 children.

I am trying to solve a mystery regarding Maria Hammer bpt.5.8.1823,sister of Richard.Do you know anything about her? I think she married a John Harry b1821 d1865 Brazil. They had 5 children. My difficulty is that I have not been able to link this John Harry to my Harry family.

I found the family of Richard Hammer and Maria on the 1851 Census, living at Fatwork Downs.

Best wishes
Wyatt and Wood of Glossop, Derbyshire. Longstaff of Bishop Auckland,Durham. Harry of St Austell and St Kew,Cornwall. Charters of County Antrim.Knight of Warwickshire.Hendy of Ballyedmonduff.

Sorry for the late reply Lazarus,

Richard and Maria did indeed have all those children. Their daughter Christianna married Thomas William Johnson and became my gg grandmother on my mothers side. They settled and spent their life in Ballarat, Victoria.

Feel free to have a look at my family tree at;

Sorry lazarus, have only discovered Richard Hammer and family, and so haven't delved into his greater family tree.

Goodluck though.
