(Newport) 1861/1871 Census Lookup Requests Please For Sarah Anne Rossiter

I am doing a one name study of the Rossiter family and am looking for information please about Sarah Anne Rossiter born circa 1864 in Newport. Mother believed to be Selina.

At this point I am not sure. I have two requests in at the moment, one  for Sarah Anne Rossiter & another for Sarah Jane Rossiter both born circa 1864 in Newport.

I am trying to establish paternity so I can link them to the right parents.

Remember what I said about Rossiters of the same name being born in the same year and the same registration district. Looks like this is another example given that a lot of censuses only show the first Christian name.

Looking in the full BMD indexes for 1864 +/- 1 year, I can see a birth for a Sarah Jane Rossiter March quarter 1864 Newport, but no Sarah Ann, so where has your Sarah Ann appeared from?

It is possible that the two Sarahs could be the same person with Sarah Jane being recorded or transcribed incorrectly as Sarah Anne but that's only speculation at the moment.

Selina Rossiter is the daughter of Caroline Rossiter nee Stone. I've just been looking at my info and Selina married William Birt in Clifton area, 4th q, 6a 79. I don't have the marriage cert but it's on the BMD.
I suspected Sarah Ann Rossiter was born out of wedlock, so I searched the BMD and found the a death of Sarah Ann Rossiter in the Clifton area 3rd q 1865. Her birth was also in the Clifton area 2nd q, 1864, 6a, 111.
Selina probably went to Newport to stay with family and had the child baptised in Newport.
I've sent for quite a few certs for BMDs for Rossiters in Newport, as soon as they arrive I will may be able to give you some more info on their relationships.

Sarah Jane is the daughter of Caroline Rossiter nee stone. This is one of the certs I have sent for to confirm.

In the 1861 census Newport, 65 Marshes Road.

John Rossiter   head 44   Frome
Caroline Rossiter  wife 40   Newport
Charles Rossiter son 10   Newport
Eliza Rossiter   daughter2   Newport
Sophia Stone widow,  visitor   Shepton Mallet

In the above census I believe John & Caroline Stone are living together, possibly not married as I've not been able to find marriage records. Carolines  age is near but the birthplace is wrong. I have sent for Eliza birth cert and Charles marriage cert, Charles later married in Bristol and settled there, this will confirm fathers.
another clue is Sophia Stone who is staying with them.

Caroline Rossiter mother 47 Frome
Elizabeth sister 12 Newport
Sarah Jane sister 5 Newport
Charles cousin 23  Frome
George cousin  21  Frome

In this census Elizabeth 12 seems to match the previous and also Sarah Jane is aged 5.
As I mentioned I have sent for various certs and I will hopefully be able to confirm the relationships.
