Stafford Watts St. Columb's, Londonderry
« on: Sunday 28 October 07 12:05 GMT (UK) »
Hi

can anyone help me?  I am trying to find out what happened to Stafford Watts who was born 1600 in Leicestershire.  I have found an apprenticeship record for him in 1621 in London, then playing around on Ancestry I found a burial reference from St. Columb's, Londonderry for a Stafford Watts born about 1600 so it appears he may have gone to Ireland.  Can anyone find anything else about this Stafford Watts - I would love to know if he married and had any children

Thanks for any help

Hello Debbie,

Send a message to the Cathedral. Someone there may be able to answer your query. www.stcolumbscathedral.org

Hi Christopher - he was apprenticed to Jacob Bonnamy of the Vintners company,  he came originally from Leicestershire I think

Hi Debbie,

The Vintners Company was allocated over 32,000 acres in the barony of Loughinsholin, in the South-east corner of County Londonderry. Click to read about it on the BBC "Your Place and Mine" website.

Thank you very much for that link Christopher,  fascinating,  it could very well explain how Stafford ended up over there.

I think its one of the great things about this board that many people have specialist knowledge in their own areas and can point people in the right direction - let me know if you ever need anything from north Berkshire or South Oxfordshire   :)
