Hi there Jannette

I put in the surname Poole in the 1891 census on line and it came back with 15,112 of which 4 were Jeffrey – but they were either too young or too old and not born in Brighton.

I entered Mary Ann Poole – of which there were 849; went no further with that line of enquiry.

I put Margaret Poole in – it came back with 136 matches, 2 of which were Margaret Ann, but both were adults; 7 were Margaret A’s but either too young or too old – none were 11 or 12.

I put Caroline Poole in and it came back with 72 matches, only 1 of which had a connection with Dinmore and was 11 years old - when I read it, my heart missed a beat as it says

RG12/ 2231/ Folio 155, Page 9 – The Orphan Assylum, Penn Road, Wolverhampton

POOLE Caroline Frances, 11, Female, born Dinmore, Herefordshire

Sorry if that is who you were looking for

Hi Chris

Many thanks for doing the lookup for me.  Did you do the lookup via the freecensus pages or where?  The 4 Jeffrey's you found are probably related to me in some way.
That Caroline Frances POOLE is mine.  I have a copy of her baptism.   Is Wolverhampton in Warwickshire?  The remainder of the POOLE family were in Birmingham in 1891.
Is it possible to access the Orphan Assylum records?  As she is in there does it follow that both her parents were dead?
Sorry to be a nuisance.

Hi Janette

There is a very good site that gives lots of details on Assylums and Orphanages etc at

www.Institutions.org.uk

This site contains information on Asylums, Orphanages, Hospitals, Reformatories, Almshouses, Prisons, Industrial & Special Schools, Dispensaries.

I would have expected that both of her parents were either dead or have left the country for her to be in such a place.
