Help with Butler's employer - 1881
« on: Tuesday 30 October 07 11:22 GMT (UK) »
My Gr. Grandfather x 3, Griffith Davies, born 1840 is on the 1881 census living at Mitford, Morpeth, working as a Butler.  His address is given as 'Butlers House'.  There is also a New School House, Gamekeepers House and a Lodge (for the coachman).  I can't work out who he is employed by.
Can anyone help please?

He is the employee of John Philip Osbaldeston Mitford at Mitford Hall. You can, in any census on-line, tab forward or backward to read adjacent sheets. Mitford Hall, and a long list of other servants is on the next sheet.
Southern or Southan [Hereford , Monmouthshire & Glos], Jenkins, Meredith and Morgan [Monmouthshire and Glos.], Murrill, Damary, Damry, Ray, Lawrence [all Middx. & London], Nethway from Kenn or Yatton. Also Riley and Lyons in South Africa and Riley from St. Helena.

Many thanks.  I really appreciate it.  I am relatively new to genealogy but am learning fast thanks to rootschat.  Once again thank you.
