Hi Anne,

Unfortunately it can be a nightmare trying to date photograph's by what the children are wearing and in this case it is the same for a couple of reason's. Firstly there is not enough detail showing up on the dresses to gauge a date by and due to the fact that they are sitting at ground level it is hard to make out the fall and design of the clothing that they have on (but as a general rule girls would be dressed in simular wear as to their mother's or older sisters). Although the boy in the photograph is wearing an outfit that has a decorative front to it, it again does not really help in the dating process. I would image that both the girls and the boy would have had their clothing purchased for them for the wedding and therefore may not have been worn for everyday useage.

As for being from Wales and possibly being a tad out of fashion I would suggest the opposite in this case as "cousin siddy" as bucked the trend (and tradition) and has turned up wearing a grey soft felt hat rather than a black topper and can be seen holding it in the middle row.

That's interesting Old Rowley! "Cousin Siddy" is in fact my husband's grandfather, and his wife on the left. The two little girls are their children. One of his wife's sisters was a dressmaker, and that family had a "mantle saleswoman" lodging with them in 1901. Maybe that explains why they were up with the trends!

Thanks again for your help.

Just an update for everyone who was kind enough to help with dating this photograph.

We have now identified two possible marriages, both in 1902, and think we know who the little boy is at the front. Our informant was correct about the identities of the two girls, but not the boy.

Thanks again folks!
