census cd's
« on: Friday 02 November 07 23:03 GMT (UK) »
Hi Everyone,

I was just wandering if anyone can tell me i have seen adverts on line advertising census Cd's are they Cd's that you just pop in your drive and up pops the selected census[lets say 1901] with all the info just like you was paying for on ancestry or is it not. I know they are a bit expensive but it would stop me pestering people on here for look ups.

Regards,

It will probably be cheaper to take out a subscription to an on-line site, where you have access to all of the censuses plus lots of other data sets. Works out at about £1.50 a week for a year.

Dennis.....

There are no real search facilities on the CDs.....so you need to have lots of time to trawl through them.....

There are several census that are free on line including Warwickshire 1841 ....check out Freecen.

I think you are better off paying a subscription to one of the site for your Census, But don't for get well all get a big kick out of helping each other on here. May be it might be worth you buying some Cd's to do with there area you are searching or spending your penny's on more certificates. I think almost every one does not mind doing "look ups" wise you would not get any replies? I am sure in time you will be helping with "look ups" your self or if not them but other help in some way like local knowledgeeven taking picturers.

I recently borrowed a boxed set of these CD's and to be honest it was too time consuming trawllling through them. And they are rather expensive. Like Migky I would agree that money would be more wisely spent on a subscription. Funnily enough I finished up asking for a lookup on here for something I couldn,t find on the CD set I borrowed. Needless to say they have gone back to the owner!!  Lincsbabe :D :D

I also own the census CD's (for Lancashire) and because we got
quite a number of people interested , we recieved them at a
discount.

I think the companies are publishing the index to each census,
the only one I have at present is 1851. (name searches)

Street Indexes are already on the majority of mine.
