I'm leaving soon Dave, just having my last "fix" before I go, my sister only has dial up and no Photoshop, so I shall be very stressed by the time I get back... ;)

Cheers

Thanks to everyone.
I've taken the easy option and used Lones version.
I actually preferred gar's idea and worked on it for ages but my lack of knowledge and patience for Photoshop gave out.

The biggest bonus out of this was that I went through the whole photo and wrote down names of the folk I know.  I've got 30 out of the 89 (definite 30 - there are a few I think I know - come on, I was 5 !!!) .  I've never done it methodically before.  Wish me luck in finding those elusive names.

Another bonus is that I have tried using Photoshop a bit more tonight and I think I will be a bit more adventurous from now on.  I've got to learn somewhere.

Suttonrog, thanks for your input but you assumed too much knowledge on my part!

Dave

Dave,

We always encourage people trying what we do and pass on tips. Layers are the way to go. You should experiment on an unwanted drawing. It is too big a topic to go through on here but google photoshop working with layers and you will find several on-line tutorials.

Filters are also worth playing with. It doesn't hurt to try. Take a copy of your pic and then from the top menu choose filter, and from the drop down menu, stylize and then from the fly out menu pick find edges. This will give you close to what Gar produced. Play with the settings.

In short - pick and old photo and play and enjoy. After 10 years of Photoshop I know about a tenth of what it can do.

Happy hunting

Rog

Cheers Rog,
I'm certainly not against experimenting.
I know enough to be able to take a photo and destroy it using Photoshop and still keep original intact.
I'll Google Photoshop and give some of the other stuff a try.
Thanks for the encouragement.
By my reckoning, if you've taken 10 years to learn a tenth of what it can do, it would take me 100 years starting now.
Bugger it,  I'll just post and ask somebody else!   ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I doubt if anyone apart the writers knows half of what it can do.

Proffessional take week long courses - but 1 tenth of it gets you to do almost everything that you need to restore photos.
