Just because it is his son's address doesn't mean it was his father's address too.   Cannot find a Francis Shepherd in Shipley.   Can you give name of his son so can follow back to get more details of where Francis born, age, etc.

They were all at that address in 1901 - for some reason Francis has been indexed as 'Thomasine' - have looked at original and it is clearly written as Francis.   Details are:

Francis Shepherd     55     b. Kirkstall, Yorks.
Annie Shepherd        49    b. Sawley, Yorks.
Arthur Shepherd       21    b. Ripon, Yorks.
Mirabell Shepherd     19    b. Ripon
Frank Shepherd         18   b. Ripon
Jane H. Shepherd      14   b. Ripon
Maggie Shepherd       8    b. Woodhill

Unfortunately not much that one needs to look at is free as regards the census.   I subscribe to ancestry.com which is the American site (because I have ancestors who went there) but you can also use the u.k. site which is ancestry.co.uk.   If you decide you don't want to subscribe to a site you can also visit 1901CensusOnline.com where you can purchase 500 credits for £5.   However, if you decide to do this you must print/save what you view because you only have this access for 7 days.   You can view other census and BMD's on this site.

A free site which is good for reference and for checking whether others may be researching your family is rootsweb.com.   The other main free site is familysearch.org where you will find parish records for the various counties of England/Scotland/Wales and a limited Ireland under the International Genealogical Index (or IGI) and they also have the 1881 Census for England/Wales but not Scotland.

Hope this helps.

I forgot to mention that if you decide on ancestry remember Francis has been transcribed as Thomasine.   However, if you go through 1901CensusOnline he is correctly transcribed on there.
