Can someone convert my FTW file to GEDCOM?
« on: Sunday 04 November 07 13:11 GMT (UK) »
I have the starter edition of FTM and it won't allow me to export my file without 'upgrading'  ::)  I just don't need the extras so could anyone convert my FTW file to Gedcom please?  :D

I'm slightly puzzled by this problem.

How did you manage to create an .ftw file?

Did you manually input all the data?

If you managed to input the data then it should allow you to export the data as a gedcom file.

I just want to convert/export my ftw. Family Tree Maker file into a Gedcom file  :-\  The utility for doing so on my version of FTM is locked.

Strange.

In the past they had limitations on trial versions, like you could import a gedcom but couldn't amend any data.

You need to state which version of FTM you are using.

For instance I am using FTM-2005, so if you are using a later version then I or others will not be able to import your FTW file and therefore not be able to export a gedcom file.

Downside
I think Rich has a starter edition in which some of the options are greyed out.
I recall helping someone else out in the dim and distant past.
Rich I'll send you a pm with my email address so you can send me the .FTW file and I'll send you back a GED file.

Stumped!

Which started edition does he have?

That is the question.

Providing you have the latest version of FTM then you should be able to convert the .ftw file.  However if he is using a late version and you are using a slightly older edition then as you try to convert the file FTM will try and force you to upgrade before you can import the file.

Downside
I'm using v16, the last but one version.
If he's got 2008 then I'm stumped as I'm not going to touch it with a very long barge pole!

Fortunately someone has managed to do it for me  :)

Thank you very much for the offer though, Stumped.  :)

And I was using FTM2005  :o
