samuel married in 1904 in whitehouse presby. church carnmoney

samuel was a blacksmith and his father was a labourer.

samuel married a sarah greer from whitehouse - at the moment this is all i know.

Hello Marcus,

My husband is descended from John Shaw b1791 Antrim and Jane 1794 Antrim (maiden name unknown)

They had a son Hugh Shaw b1827 Antrim who married Rosemary Morton b1829, Antrim daughter of William Morton b1781 Antrim and Rose (maiden name unknown) b1787 Antrim

Their son Robert Hugh Shaw b1865 Co. Antrim married Mary McNeice in Edinburgh in 1887 (the McNeice family were also originally from Antrim).

My husbands mother was their youngest child Mary who was born in 1911 in West Lothian, Scotland.

thanks grandmasheila

It looks like my shaws may not be directly linked to yours unless john and jane 1791 had other children. Although i cant quite get that far back yet!!!

The names hugh shaw etc dont ring any bells, although until the 1911 census for antrim is published next month i have many questions still unanswered about my grandfather let alone my great grandfather or my great great grandfather....

unfortunately marriage records dont always tell you the ages of individuals which i think is essential for trying to trace people this is why i am a bit stuck, at the moment i'm having to estimate my great grandfathers birth year, it doesnt help that there are lots of shaws in antrim in the late 1800's either. ( although  that might be blessing later on).

anyway thanks for you info, when i get some more accurate dates about my shaws, i will post them up here, who knows there must be a connection somewhere!!!!!

marcus

ps these are possibly some shaw family members (see photo) my Dad had this photograph in his collection but does not know anything about it.......calling all  roots chat people  (especially shaw family members)if you recognise anyone in this photo let me know....co's i have not a clue, they probably not even related to me (ha ha)....its believed to be samuel or james shaw (in fact if anyone can put a rough date to the photo based on the clothes) i might be able to narrow it down - knowing my luck they are smiths from my dads mothers side.

Hi, I have been fascinated by the emails about the Ballymena Shaws.

My GGG Grandfather was  John Shaw.He was born near Ballymena. He married and had the following children:
Alexander Shaw (abt 1828) My GG Grandfather
Jane Shaw  (abt 1826)
Robert Shaw (abt 1827)
Daniel Shaw (abt 1835)
John Shaw (abt 1837)
Mary Shaw (abt 1840)

Alexander married Elizabeth Scott in 1851. They has a son William John Shaw (my Great Grandfather) who later married Mary Curry in 1879. At that time he lived in Killyree, but they moved to Broxburn West Lothian. In 1880 my Grandmother Elizabeth Ann Shaw was born.

Iwould love to think that the photos in this message board are distant relatives but can't be sure. Can anyone put this jigsaw together?

Hi John,
Our Shaws also lived in Broxburn, at Greendykes road and Grange Road.  Hugh Shaw b1827 Dunaghy m Rosemary Morton their son Robert Hugh Shaw b1865 was my husbands grandfather.  He married Mary McNeice in Edinburgh - the McNeice family were also from Antrim.  Perhaps your ancestors and ours were cousins?  Robert Hugh Shaw was an oil retortman when he lived in Broxburn.
