Euphemia Paxton - born 26 Sept 1842
« on: Monday 05 November 07 13:27 GMT (UK) »
Hello

I’d like to make a name query on my wifes female line.

I’m trying to macke a positive line between whom I believe are the GGGt grandparents and my wifes definite GGt Mother.

My wifes GGt M was Euphemia Lee Paxton.

She was married on 04 March, 1869, to Samuel William Lawrie    I’ve got a copy of the marriage entry (attached).  On the cert she says she is 24 (little white lie I think) - which would have made her born in abt 1845. Have traced back his parents without problem via IGI and SP.

However, a little mystery.  Am 100% sure that Euphemia Lee Paxton was the daughter of John Paxton and Jean (or Jane) Peacock.  (found on IGI). - she was one of their 7 children. Found  their marriage on SP .  21 June 1819, Kelso, Roxburgh.  (John Paxton to Jane Peacock).

Have downloaded the OPR image, and John Paxtons profession is down as watchmaker same as his profession on Euphemia Lee Paxtons marriage entry.

My Question is.

1.  Euphemias birth entry on 26 Sept 1842 (from SP) - a nice clearly written one - father as above watchmaker, mother Jane Peacock.  However, no sign of name Lee on birth entry - so where could it have come from?

A secondary question is can anyone make out the wording after watchmaker in fathers profession.

I’ll be cheeky and ask if anyone has any census entries for this family.  I’ll admit haven’t got round to checking for death entries of the parents or gone further back.

Can't find any other Paxton/Peacock marriages

Thanks for any help.  Regards,   Steve   :O)

Do you mean on the attached marriage cert?  - John Paxton Watchmaker deceased and Jean Paxton M.S. Peacock deceased (I'm assuming M.S. means maiden surname)

Hello Pam and Barbara,

Thanks very very much for the info received. (must have been a senior moment - not recognising 'deceased'.  Yes, M.S. means maiden surname)

Children - from IGI - apart from Euphemia whom I also got on SP.

Mary Ferme Paxton.         c.14 May 1820, Kelso
Elizabeth Friskin Paxton.  c.09 Jun, 1922, Kelso
Agnes Paxton                   c.02 May,1824, Kelso
James Paxton                   c. 02 Mar 1828, Kelso
Christina Paxton               c.11 Sep 1931, Kelso
Walter Peacock Paxton     c.17 Aug 1835, Kelso

Trying to get info against a self imposed deadline for my mother in law for whom I'm doing this.  From no info to quite a lot in 2 months.

So, still no further forward regarding where Euphemia adopted the  'Lee'  from.  May never find out.

Once again a very big thank you.  If I can be of any help in the Aberdeenshire area please post.

Regards,   Steve :O)
