Pat,

You could try posting the address here - some of us have old trade directories.
Hi Shaun,
Thanks for so much your help.. :-*
The address, is William's Road, Ealing. London...and the name is Edward Martin...Coal Merchant on the 1901 census. I know the number of the house, but cannot place it on a public forum for privacy reasons as the house still exists.

Thanks, you guys are fantastic.

Drawn a blank with this I'm afraid. The address seems to be too far West to appear in the London or London suburbs directories. There is no coal merchant by the name of Edward Martin in the 1914 Middlesex Directory (though there is one by the name of R Martin in Uxbridge, and another named Ellis Martin in Kilburn).

Hi Pat

Just so that I'm clear -

Am I right in thinking the sender was Edward Martin?
To whom was the card addressed?
Was the destination address (the William's Road address) the same as Edward Martin's address in 1901?
How was the card signed?

Hi Avm228,

Hope this makes things a bit clearer...

Edward Martin was the sender.
The card was addressed to Miss N or H Martin
It was addressed to William's Road, Edward's address, as in 1891-1901 census.
Unsure how the postcard was actually signed, as I am only in contact with my acquaintance via e-mail, but he says Edward signed it.

The occupier in 1910/11 was George Martin (1911 Kellys)

Occupier of that address from 1907 (or earlier) to 1914 (or later) appears to have been George Martin.

Thanks Shaun... :-*
That could be why Edward has sent the postcard there...it might be a neice, Edward had a brother George...and as he only had 3 children, and none were named George, it might be his brother who took up the occupancy after 1901. ;) I have just found George living in Tottenham in 1901.

It seems the Martin's were making a take over bid for that road...I found a Mrs Martin living at number 16 in 1914... ;D
