mckie of middlesbrough
« on: Tuesday 06 November 07 11:55 GMT (UK) »
hello everyone
i am desparate to find a family member in the electorial register
from 1871-1878 living at time of marriage in 1878 at the following address
bolckow street, middlesbrough his name is GEORGE MCKIE
he has stated various ages on the 1881-1901 census which means he must have born around 1847-1850 in scotland but he married in 1878 in middlesbrough and states his father george was a block and mesh maker (deceased)
is there any way someone could please look at that address around that time
as i cannot find him in the 1871 census and thought he may be mentioned in the electorial list and see who he is living with, his occupation seems to iron roller, riverter, or boilers so in other words he worked with iron or steel
i would appreciate any help on this matter as i have been at this research for many years with this man george mckie

regards
michael

I've found a George McKie in Walker, 1901 married to Mary A and he's a Shipyard Riveter, is he the right one?

Does his marriage cert state his age?   Do you know of any siblings?

hello madpants
no i cant find him in the 1841-1871
the witness to marriage is:
william leith and elizabeth roberts, which hasnt helped me at all
married 9april 1878

i did find a george mckie living at ellison st yarrow in 1871 with a brother called archibold but that states he was 28 which means he would have been born in 1843, so he should have been aged 34 at time of marriage
the archibold mckie did move to middlesbrough and died in 1886 aged 46
but i have got no positive proof that this is the right george mckie.
forgot to mention that george and archibold did have a father called george mckie and he was a block maker, but the age does not tie up correctly with george the son, he would have been born in 1843, so the age seems to way out and i am looking for someone born around 1849-50 that is why i am desperate to find him in earlier census

Have you seen the Geo McKie living with Arch and Elizabeth in Jarrow on the 1871?  Looking at the transcription it says brother not boarder, the age is out slightly but he is a riveter.
RG10 5042 81 51 (if you can't see it I can post it)

In 1881 Archibald and family (minus brother George) are living at 52 Italy Street in Linthorpe, Middlesbrough.  Co-incidence??

i have seen it, but do i accept that as the correct age, because later george states he was born 1847 then 1849, if i do then i have to accept archibold is a brother and then i will research in to scotland.
this is the problem when was george born was it 1843-1850
thank you madpants for your help in this matter

I missed your second post  ::)

Ages are not necessarily right on census'  he might have been out the night of census and it was a guess.  One way to find out would be to see if Archibald had the same father,  there is a possible marriage on freebmd

Gateshead June Q 1859
Archibald McKay
Elizabeth Alderson
10a 661

If you specify fathers name etc on the cert request you'll not pay for the wrong one.

archibold does have the same father
living in scotland in 1851 father george mckay not mckie with mother elizabeth
that is why i followed archibold
i may look for archibold wedding and see if he states his father is deceased when he got married as it stated on georges marriage certificate.
i will have to look for a death of a george mckie based on age that would say around 1843 rather than 1847-50 and maybe it will mention a family member like his wife mary or sibling who would have recorded the death
this is get more positive
