Gorthy, Scotland????
« on: Tuesday 06 November 07 15:33 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone tell me where Gorthy is in Scotland? I have a possible contact for  my Todd family who are from Dunning, Perthshire, my lot and her lot were living near each other in Gorthy. But where is Gorthy? I can't find it on a map and Googling it just confuses things.

Hi Beverly
Sounds like you are one of my cousins--or second cousins. I'm descended from Isabella Niven and David Tod (or is it James--I don't have my material with me right now and can't remember). My branch (gt. grandfather)  left the farm at Gorthy and went to Glasgow. My grandfather and his brothers emigrated to New Zealand. I have more information if you would like to get it.

This sounds promising....I'm descended from Isabella Niven and Thomas Tod from Dunning, Perthshire. Their son Thomas Todd b 1831 was my 2x great grandfather, who went to London and had his family there. Would love to hear from you and swop info. I can send my e-mail address by personal message if that's easier?

We're cousins then. Your gt. grandfather went to London--I was looking him up the other day actually--and mine, his brother, went to Glasgow. Send me your email and we can compare notes. It was Thomas. I left my file at my daughter's house so couldn't look it up/

Correction--you said gt gt. so I guess your father or mother is my second cousin. But definitely related.
