Hi, 146ESR

The registers you require should be deposited in the London Metropolitan Archives. A  search within London Borough of Camden, should locate the registers

their address is:
http://www.corpoflondon.gov.uk

You will find some pictures at:
http://srv2.lycoming.edu/~lewes/shelleysites/londonpancras.htm

You would need to weigh up the cost of getting a copy of the entry, and the information it will contain.

Hello Mike,

Pre 1837 there were no marriage certificates, only an entry in the parish register.  You can get a copy of the entry by going in person to the County Record Office for the area where they were married.  At some County Record Offices you can take your camera and photograph the entry for nothing (ie Wiltshire Archives, but Hampshire Archives do not allow cameras).

Some County Record Offices will send you a copy on an email request (ie Wiltshire Record Office) for about 10p a copy + postage, but you have to know the fiche numbers that the marriage entry is on and quote it on your request.

Another alternative is to ask a kind Rootchatter who lives in the area to get a copy for you, but you do need to be specific about names and dates of the entry otherwise they spend half the day looking for what you want.  Who knows, you might be lucky.  Post your request on the appropriate county board, it is worth a try if you can't go yourself.

Hi Mike

Just to add  - the London Metropolitan Archives is closed now until January 2008 due to major refurbishment.

Don't want you making a journey only to find you can't get in.

another alternative to view the parish register is to use your local LDS centre (latter day saints/mormons) and order the microfilm, wait a couple of weeks and it arrives! Cost about £2.50 you have access to the film for about 4 weeks.
I've been doing just that recently for the first time and have found the staff/volunteers there (1)  very helpful and friendly. I have been able to find lots of entries, quite often the film will also have baptism and burial entries as well!
To find out if a film is available you need to search the catalogue on familysearch.org

The film number you need is :

Marriages v. 55-56, 1794-1811.  FHL BRITISH Film
598179
Title  Parish registers of St. Pancras Old Church, 1660-1916
Authors  Church of England. St. Pancras Old Church (St. Pancras) (Main Author)

** couldn't see that the film had any baptisms or burials though  :'(

There is also an index
Marriages v. 150, 1874-1875; List of marriages v. 172, 1837-1842; Index to marriages v. 173-174, 1794-1807; Burials v. 175-177, 1793-1812; Index to burials v. 193, 1813-1815.  FHL BRITISH Film
598355

but you should the verify the numbers

If you use the procedure at http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/FindingBatchNos.html you can find that the LDS extracted data from the church records. (You may already know that but the procedure might come in handy some other time or to somebody else.)

At http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~hughwallis/IGIBatchNumbers/CountryEngland.htm#PageTitle you will find St Pancras Old Church in Greater London and in its numerous extracted batches you will find the marriage of EH to SB.  With luck, you may find more data needed.

Regarding the reliability of the LDS extraction of data I consider it acceptable especially if, for instance, cansus info. shows confirmation in some manner.  But like many written documents, there are errers! ;D

The cost of hiring an LDS film, which must be viewed at an LDS FHC is £2.70 for three weeks but that can be extended with a further lower payment.  If you visit an LDS FHC, take your digital camera which makes the time available stretch towards infinity!

Chas
