Hi Nick

a possible mariage for William Aves

William Aves
1839
Mildenhall
Suffolk
June quarter
Vol 13
page 601

on the same page is a
Jane Abrey
or a
Jane Basset
plus some others

would put my money on the Jane Abrey, as they pop up in a couple of census

Hello,

I have Stanley Aves down as the 1899 man. There was a group of about 50 lads from Cambridgeshire and Suffolk who were called up on the 1st June 1918. 59454 Stanley Aves was one of them. Nearly all of them were around 18 and a half. These lads were posted as a draft to the 6th Battalion, The Northamptonshire Regiment on 18th September 1918. The battle on the 29th September 1918, would probably have been Stanley's first taste of battle.

I hope this helps,
Steve.

Researching : Beeby (Titchmarsh / Peterborough), Brooksbank (Peterborough), Northamptonshire Regiment 1914-1918

Steve, thanks for that. It helps to know a little bit about the circumstances of an action. In fact it is remarkably similar to my great uncle's demise at the first battle of Ypres. His battalion went into the front line one afternoon, went straight into action and Arthur was missing, presumed dead when the dust had settled. Quite a sobering thought.
