hi Annie,
How are you today.
Thanks for the reply re Ashton I checked the site and it is as I thought Ashton under Lyne. The other Ashton s in Makerfield Wigan.
The site is excellent and I found it interesting. My husband and myself are very interested in WW1 and frequently visit the battlefields of France and Belgium.
My hubbys grandfather was killed in France in 1917. He is buried at Henninel near Arras and was serving with the 18th Bat Manchester Regt.
He also served on the Somme and his unit were one of the few to achieve their objectiive on 1st July 1916.The Manchesters and the Kings own Liverpools liberated Montaubon village on the 1st.
I noticed that quite a lot of the men on the Ashton pals site are listed on the Tyne Cot Memorial to the missing and the pozieres memorial ,we have visited these places many times and they are ,as are all the cemeteres and memorials, beautifully kept andprovide a beautifulsetting to our heroes.
I have sent photos Montaubon meorial to MANCHESTER & LIVERPOOL PALS and Cuckoo Passage Cemetery Heninnel PAS de CALAIS.
