Does anyone have access to Millbrook PRs?
« on: Saturday 10 November 07 17:01 GMT (UK) »
Hi, I have found a baptism on the IGI for Bet. Watts on 10.5.1830 to John Watts and Sarah Underwood. When she married, she did so under the name of Underwood, so I assume she was illegitimate :-\. Can anyone check this entry for me to see if there is any notes (clutching at straws now!) or anything to suggest whether she was definitely illegitimate or not? I haven't found a marriage for John Watts and Sarah Underwood yet, so perhaps they never did marry? Thanks, Jo

Who did she name as her father on the marriage cert?

There's an interesting report on the Underwoods in Millbrook on A2A - under quarter session rolls 1828-9

Well I was accessing the Milbrook PR this morning, but these only went up to 1812. To see the baptism entry for 1830 you need to go to the Beds Archives at County Hall (only open 4 days in the week) or visit Luton Library.

Where & when did Bet Underwood get married & to whom.

Regards John

Hi, thanks for looking. Bet (Betsey) Underwood married William Field on 25 July 1847 in North Mimms, Middlesex/Herts. She states John Watts, labourer as her father but I can find no trace of him in the 1841 census (but I don't have a lot of info to go on to be honest!). I guess I'll have to take a day off work and make a trip to Luton! I've got a few other bits I can look up at the same time, though!
Thanks again, Jo
