BDM indexes for IOM? Trimnell/Cannell
« on: Monday 12 November 07 00:12 GMT (UK) »
Can someone tell me whether there are any online BDM indexes for the IOM as there are for England?

I am trying to research the ancestry of Dorothy Eileen Trimnell born December 1918.   The family say that she was born on the Isle of Man with parents William Trimnell and Jane Cannell.

The only thing I have found for the name Trimnell on the IOM so far are 4 entries in a burial register index including George William Trimnell and Catherine Jane Trimnell (I suppose there is an outside chance that this could be the couple I am looking for and that they were known by their middle names).

Any help on this family would be very welcome.
I am researching Kemp, Emslie, Mitchell in Lumphanan, Aberdeenshire; Marshall, Shewan and Adie in Longside/Peterhead, Aberdeenshire; Still, Sim, Duncan and Andrew in Boyndie/Fordyce Banffshire; Niven, Bruce, Ross, Robert in Fetteresso / Durris, Kincardineshire.

I have been researching for over 20 years and have a very extensive tree involving each of those names, proven back to the early 18th century in some cases.

Hi Glendaveny

I had a quick look on family search, (IGI).  There are lots of Cannells on the Isle of Man, but no Trimnells, or even variations of it.  There isn't anthing as recent as 1918 on there either.

Maybe Dorothy's mum was born on the Isle of Man, but can't see any sign of William on there.  I have ancestors from the Isle of Man, one branch goes way back, but the other branch I haven't had much luck with as yet.

Good luck with your searching

This may be off topic, but there is one P. R. Trimnell listed in the current Manx Telephone Directory.  I can give you the address and phone number by way of e-mail if you wish.
